Sourdough Starter

Sourdough September is upon us and with that in mind, Novel Breads Co. will be making our 14-year-old starter, Pearl, available for purchase. At Novel Breads Co., we think its important to the baking experience to have some hand in the process of creating the starter, so we sell the starter in dried active flakes of fed starter. In this way, you'll have about a week or so of building your own starter and then using your starter in you sourdough loaves.

The other advantage to dried flakes vs. wet starter is that you can start the process whenever you are ready. If life gets too busy, you may want to start the process later (which we recommend if you don't have time as the whole process takes time). Worst case scenario, you can grind up the flakes and add them to a salad for nutritional benefits.

Included: 

*1/2 cup dried sourdough flakes (it only takes 1/4 cup to build a starter, but we want to give you a couple tries).

*Printed copy of how to reconstitute the starter in a week and how to care for it.
